They also took the stand that the opinion, given by Assistant Attorney General George H. Editor, Tribune: I have never written to the People's Forum before, but now I am going to express my views on the bachel- or-spinster tax. I am against this bill. The way it is now there are so many young folks getting married now-a-days, some pretty near just out of the cradle, with just enough money to get the marriage license, and then they have to go on the relief and the state and federal government has to take care of a lot of them. Therefore I am against the tax, be- cause a single person has a heck of time getting a job, so it is hard enough to earn enough to buy clothes and other things without imposing a tax of $12 and $4 a year for single Persons. But I would suggest a tax on some of those state representa- tives who introduced such foolish bills, Your's truly, Marion Alm, ‘Wilton, N. Last year, when a district judge was told it had passed he looked in the books for it. It wasn't there, Hence the investigation. Why the bill was not sent to the governor Wehe was unable to ascertain but he has an idea that it was stolen from the possession of the senate clerical staff, says such things have not been un- known in North Dakota legis- latures. The bill would have increased exemptions on execution from judginents from $1,000 to $1,500 for married men and would have granted unmarried men an exemption of $250, plus certain Personal effects, If it was “stolen,” as he suspects, loan sharks were responsible, Wehe said.
