Because Poley can summon this “frog” from within at a moment's notice, and make it run up and down: the scale at will, many fans believe that Poley is a trained ventriloquist. This is not the case, Poley did not develop the croak, he just discovered that it was a natural part of his equipment and promptly included it in his repertoire. His natural eing- ing voice is passably pleasant. In addition to the “frog,” Poley has developed distinctive imitations of about fifty strange beasts and fowl. An audition of his various noises sounds like bediam cut loose in a 200. During the early days of his mu- sical career with the Tyrone (Pa.) Fife and Drum Corps and with War- ing's Snap Orchestra both fn and out of Penn State, it was Poley’s custom to rent a drum set from a local pur veyor of musical instruments. The Tental price per night was fifty cents. Today, Poley revels ina drum. aa valued at close to $1,000. - Special Equipment Installed by Each of Stations Getting NBC Award CAUGHT BALLOON MESSAGES Fargo, Des Moines, Kansas City, Cedar Rapids, Denver Among Recipients Radio stations in 14 midwestern] cities will receive from George Mc- Elrath, NBC operations engineer, souvenirs of the recent National Geographic Society-Army Air Corps stratosphere flight and letters thank- ing them for their co-operation with NEC in the broadcasts.
