Long's personally-supervised house bills were ready to skip through the senate where he and the administra- tion of Gov. O. K. Allen, his chief of staff, held a safe majority. As passed in the house over roaring objections of a weak minority, this program gives the governor a free hand with the state militia, beyond court interference, added strength in elecion machinery and a state police force of personnel sufficient to en- force law anywhere in the state. Local Scouts to Take Minnesota Canoe Trip Three boy scouts left Bismarck Fri- day for the Canadian Border Lodge in northern Minnesota where they will join 26 other northwest scouts in a week’s canoe trip through the wilder- ness area, Phillip Constans and Dayton Ship- ley of Bismarck and Eugene Ries, Eagle Scout of troop 40, Hebron, made the trip. They will be joined by Thorolf Johanson, scoutmaster, troop 6; Russel Saxvik, Eagle Scout of troop 5; and Burton Benson, Eagle Scout of troop 41, Glen Ullin, at the camp 20 miles north of Ely. The canoe trip planned is a yearly excursion and is considered the most advanced camping trip in the world for the boy scouts, Walter W. Head, national president of the Boy Scouts of America, on re- turning from the trip a year ago, had this to say: “The Canadian border country provides more for outdoor recreation than any other place I have visited in the world.” U.S. Wheat Allotment Is 10 Million Bushels to London, Aug. 17—(?}—The United States was tentatively allocated a 1934-35 wheat export quota of 10,- 000,000 bushels by the international wheat conference Friday, the Assoc- ited Press ws informed by an official source. Argentina's export qucta was placed at 150,000,000 bushels, this source added. It was extremely doubtful that these figures would be altered, he said, ex- pressing confidence no appreciable change in them would be made at any rate. The low figure set for the United States was a startling one to observ- ers, although it was known she was willing to accept a considerable re- duction because of the drouth. It had been said on good authority 30,- 000,000 bushels would be acceptable to Washington. Argentina had asked an allotment Of 150,000,000 bushels for export.
