A SPEAR WILL STOP A LION'S THOUGH THE WOUND 6E SLIGHT/ THE ANIMAL STOPS TO RID HIMSELF OF THE SHAFT/ AT THE Heart Interest Rife In Finishing School’ Vicitm of hypocrisy and greed which Mlourish in a pretentious school for girls, the heroine of RKO-Radio’s drama, “Finishing School,” coming to the Capitol Theatre is enacted by Frances Dee, whose recent sterling performance in “Little Women” prom- ises a most sympathetic interpreta tion of the role. The heart interest centers upon a daughter of the socially elite, shy, sen- sitive, with high ideals and utterly un- ‘tutored in the ways of the world into which she is thrown. She falls in love ‘with a@ young doctor who is support. ing himself by means of menial tasks while acquiring experience as an in- terne. ‘Tense drama is built up in the strug- gle of these lovers to break down the ‘walls of a false social order which has ybeen built around the girl by the school and her mother. The young couple are almost broken on the wheel of trickery and selfishness before they are rescued through the straight thinking of the man. ‘There also is plenty of hilarious comedy to high-light the dramatic ection. Featured with Frances Dee ere Billie Burke, Bruce Cabot, Ginger Rogers and John Halliday. A color- Sul glimpse behind the scenes at a emart school, as well as in the hotels and night clubs of New York City, and the latest collegiate fashions, fads and daibles are featured in the production. Dealing with Paris at the time of the arrival of Lindbergh, the plot follows the fortunes of a group of newspaper correspondents, a girl fash- fon writer and other expatriates in the festive French capital. One of the spectacular details of the new picture is a great fashion show, with beautiful mannequins displaying the latest finery in a replica of a famous Parisian salon. Another is the huge masquerade ball given by the artists in the Latin Quarter. The famous American bar and other haunts of tourists also figure in the engaging blend of comedy and ro- mance. Madge Evans plays the heroine as the American tourist who, jilted and |’ stranded in Paris, wins her way to fame as a fashion writer. Otto Kruger plays the philandering news- gatherer, and Robert Young the faith. ful friend with whom the heroine eventually finds happiness. Una Mer- kel is the comedy foil to the heroine, as a fast-talking and cynical illus. trator. Any person receiving counterfeit money is the loser unless he un- knowingly passes it on.
