The city’s “400” in just about that number attended the reception in his honor Thursday night in beautiful Washington palace, where the presi- rg dent enjoyed Hawaiian music and \ hula dancing after a quiet dinner with Governor Joseph B. Poindexter of Hawaii. At Pearl Harbor, the once peaceful lagoon that became one of the world’s mightiest naval bases, the comman- der-in-chief will see the initial results of the expenditure of approximately $10,000,000 of public works funds un- der his administration to bring the base to its fullest efficiency. Part of the work which Mr. Roose- velt will inspect is the $3,000,000 dredging job which will permit navi- gation of the harbor by the largest warships. Following the inspection, the presi- dent will return to Honolulu to dedi- cate the portal of Ala Moana Park, the huge public works project on the beach between the business section and Waikiki. Later he will be the guest of Harold Dillingham, a Har- vard classmate and prominent island businessman, After dinner at his hotel, Mr. Roosevent expects to drive to Iolani Palace, the original royal palace, but now the seat of the territorial gov- |ernment.
