NEW RIGHTHANDER WILL OFFICIATE ON MOUND FOR LOCALS Billy Lanier Will Get Tryout With Capital Citians; Game Called for 6:30 DOUBLEHEADER ON SUNDAY Three Games Scheduled for Balance of July; Two in City's Improved Park Boasting a much stronger pitching staff and priding themselves on the fact that they are playing a higher type of baseball than last year when they split a two-game series with the local club, the Northern Pacific Shop team comes to Bismarck today for three clashes with the Capital Citians. The first game with the 1933 Min- nesota champions tonight will be called at 6:30 and Sunday’s double- header opens at 1:30 p. m., with the second contest scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Billy Lanier, big righthander from the University of North Dakota, who has just been hired by Manager Neil Churchill, will pitch against the Shop club in the game tonight. For the two Sunday games Lefty Vincent. Barney Morris and Themar Simle will all be available. Pitched No-Hit Game Lanier, who turned down a chance in the Northern League with the Grand Forks Colts for the increased returns in the unorganized semi-pro- fessional ranks, last week pitched a no-hit, no-run game against the Petersburg, N. D., aggregation. In that game the Fargo boy chalked up 24 strikeouts. The Bismarck club returned from Canada early Friday morning where they divided four close games with Jamestown before Winnipeg and Rock Lake fans. Three games have been scheduled for the rest of July with the Eau THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE, SATURDAY, JULY 21, 1934 | OUR BOARDING HOUSE YOU'D BETTER LOAD SOME SAND BALLAST IN THAT PLUG HAT OF YOURS,TO KEEP You FROM CARRYING YOUR NOSE COME BACK FROM THAT GOLD MINE FLOP, YOUVE BEEN ‘PUTTING THE SOCIETY SNIFF AND LORGNETTE ON EVE! While the pace- setting Tigers and second-place Yankees were taking a-pair of trim- mings from tail-end clubs Friday, the Cleveland Indians, responding to threats to the managerial security of Walter Johnson, moved into third Place ahead of Boston and the St. Louis Browns slipped past the totter- ing Senators into fifth. The Cleveland tribe won from the Red Sox, 5-3. Rogers Hornsby’s Browns won from Washington, 7-4. Jimmie Foxx caused Detroit's downfall. He clouted his 29th home run of the season to provide the win- ning tally in the A’s 5-4 victory. The White Sox had to go 13 innings to beat the Yankees, 7-6. The Giants beat the Reds 11-5.
