The mercury dropped to the freez- ing point in two areas — 32 degrees above zero at Beach and Max — and came within one degree of that at Crosby. Dunn Center and Sanish re- ported minimum temperatures of 34 and Minot 35. A 48-degree reading at Oakes was the highest minimum reading overnight. Maximum temperatures generally were in the sixties with a 79-degree mark at Oakes the state’s peak. The forecast is for fair and not so cool Friday night; Saturday probably fair, warmer. Heaviest rainfall was reported from Devils Lake where 1.10 inches preci- pitation fell. More than half an inch fell at Bismarck. Drake recorded 88- inch and Carrington and Napoleon re- ceived more than two-fifths of an inch rain. D., that a United States agent has been there investi- gating a letter threatening harm Federal Judge Andrew Miller of Far- go brought a prompt denial here Thursday night. The Wahpeton report said a threat- ening letter sent from Richland county had been received by the judge and an investigation launched. William Langer when he came up for sentencing after his conviction on charges in con- nection with the adminis‘ration of relief funds. Langer received an 18 months sentence and was fined $10,- 000. “No one from the marshal’s office has been in Richland county on such a mission,” it was siid here, “and no such investigation is be!ng made.” Judge Miller is not in the city at present. Diphtheria Is Fatal To 20-Year-Old Girl Ardis Norma Halvorson, 20, daugh: ter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Halvorson of Maddock, died at 7:45 a. m., Fri- day in a local hospital of diphtheria, aggravated by a heart compllesion. Miss Halvorson had at Mandan for the last month and had been making her home with her sister Doris at 401 Fifth St. Doris Halvorson is employed in the office ot the federal relief stock feed distrit tor here. In addition to her parents and sis- ter, Mis Halvorson leaves one brother and six other sisters. A second broth- er died a year ago.
