He met one of that type the other day, and told his man- ager it reminded him of an inci- dent in a Hungarian restaurant where the various dishes were numbered for the benefit of the patrons and the convenience of the waiters. A young couple entered, Young said. The orchestra struck up the “William Tell” overture. Turning to her escort, the young woman said, “That's familiar—what is it?” The man glanced at the orches- tra and saw the number there dis- played. Then. with the air of one who is accustomed to cafe life, he looked up No. 3 on the bill of fare. “That,” he replied, when he located it, “ig ‘Filet Mignon,’ by Champignons.” Young once wrote a song en- titled “Alas, How Easily Things Go Wrong!” which, it now ap- pears, had a little popularity. One day, when he was in a music store, he overheard a wo- man asking for the song. She did not seem quite sure what it was she wantéd, however, for all she could reply to the clerk’s inquiries was, “I have forgotten the name of the song, but I know it is by Victor Young, and it is something about how easy it is to go wrong.” Victor Young expressed the fer- vent hope later, that the lady “would not be disappointed when she found that the moral of the song was not quite what she had expected.” Valley City.
