Produced} by Winfield Sheehan in association with Lew Brown, the film is a truly} magnificent piece of work that Holly- ‘wood can well pride itself on having accomplished. The film is produced on so stu- Pendous a scale that it would be im- Possible to list all its multiple won-| ders here. Among the outstanding, however, are hundreds of dazzling| girls, a vocal chorus of 500, a thou- sand players, 335 scenes, 1,200 wild animals and five bands of music. Five breath-taking rhythmic revues were created from this host of music, girls and stars. Each revue is lavishly and elaborately staged against large and beautiful scenes that fairly take your breath away. The song num- bers that set the fast tempo of these scintillating revues, are all authentic hits that should have the world sing- ing and dancing for the remainder of the year. Although musical in theme, the film embodies a simple and charming story that holds your sus- Pense throughout. The large cast assembled for this mammoth show, includes such stellar screen stars as Warner Baxter, Madge Evans, James Dunn, John Boles, Nigel Bruce, Ralph Morgan, Shirley Temple, Arthur Byron and Stepin Fetchit. To lend a hand to the splen- |ring roles. Preaching service every two weeks. A cordial welcome to all. H. M. Gulson, pastor. MOVIES Summerville, Pitts In Comedy on Desert The limitless expense of the Great American Desert forms the setting for the greater part of “Love Birds” the Universal comedy which comes to the Capitol theater tonight, with Slim Summerville and ZaSu Pitts in star- Much of the action takes place in and around a dilapidated ranch house, El Mirage Rancho which was constructed by studio technical de- partments a few miles outside of the desert town of Indio, California, and here the company spent three weeks in filming scenes. In many scenes the vista extends for miles, with a de- solate floor of sand stretching away to the horizon, and not a habitation in sight. When a subsequent gold rush brings hundreds of eager prospectors flocking to the ranch house, a tent city springs up overnight, with makeshift tented saloons and even a burlesque show to provide entertainment for the miners. “Love Birds” was directed by Wil- liam Seiter, and the cast appearing in support of Summerville and Miss Pitts includes Mickey Rooney, Fred- erick Burton, Dorothy Christy, Hugh Enfield, Maude Eburne and many other screen favorites, A man in Alameda, Calif, sat on a load of explosives and we call him mad; European statesmen sit on a load of dynamite and we call them diplomats, es * * General Douglas MacArthur brought suit against two Washington newspa- permen for $1,750,000 for alleged libel, and the writers almost thanked him for the compliment.
