New York leads in the number of famous orchestras on the air over NEC, but Chicago, Boston, Denver and other cities contribute their share of toe-tantalizing rhythms. Those heard from New York alone form ® veritable Who's Who of Mod- ern Music, headed by Paul White- man, the dean of modern maestros, and Rudy Vallee. Whiteman and his troupe of entertainers, Ramona, Peg- gy Healy, Jack Fulton, the Rhythm Boys and others, are heard several nights each week from Le Casino Bleu in New York's Biltmore Hotel. Rudy Vallee and his Connecticut Yankees broadcast from the Holly- wood Restaurant. .George Olsen at the Pennsylvania; Richard Himber at the Ritz-Cariton; Eddie Elkins at the Savoy Plaza; Phil Harris at the St. Regis; Jack Denny at the Pierre; Harold Stern at the Montclair; Enric Madriguera and Xavier Cugat at the ‘Waldorf-Astoria, and Eddie Duchin at the Central Park Casino all play on the air from New York. Buddy Rogers brought his orchestra to the Paradise Restaurant Jan. 26, and Duke Ellington returns to the Cotton Club and NBC networks early this month. New York also contributes to the countrywide radio audience the mu- sic of Leo Reisman, Don Bestor and Ted Black's Cafe Loyale orchestra, Chicago also is well represented in the list with Wayne King and Vin- cent Lopez from the NBC studios and Ted Weems from the Bismarck, Car- los Molina from the Congress Hotel, Noble Sissle at the College Inn, Harry Sosnick at the Edgewater Beach Hotel ps “day Lucas at the Terrace Gar- “een Bernie, the old Maestro, usual- ly plays from Chicago but at present he is on tour and his broadcasts come from various cities in the East and South.
