{ yer , Bismarc! Schneider ‘c) THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE, _THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1933 SCORE THREE TINES IN SECOND QUARTER FOR NEEDED MARGIN Visitors Close With Great Rush, Outscoring Demcns 19-3 in Last Half SCHNEIDER, AGRE EFFECTIVE Earl Logue, Graf and Doegagle Play Sterling Game For Lion ‘Eleven } | — | j Thanks to a great second quarter; an which the Demons scored three touchdowns, Bismarck high football team in its opening the season Wednesday evening defeat- ed Linton’s Lions 30 to 19 With a great finishing fush, the visitors, paced by two flashy backs, | Earl Logue and Graf, and a rangy ball-toting end, Doegagle, outscored the Capital City eleven 19 to 3 in aL second half. Bismarcx got off to an early tena | when Captain Lawrence Schneider, on an end reverse. crossed the goal line shortly after Linton had made the mistake of failing to kick on fourth down in midfield. | Early in the second quarter Bud{ Kanz, Demon fullback, plunged through the line for two yards and another touchdown. On the following Kickoff, Linton’s backs failed to touch, the ball down when it went into thi end zone and Gordon Engen, Bis marck center, fell on it for another touchdown. A long pass from Nor- man Agre to Captain Schneider from} the 30-yard line netted another touch- | down. Three passes netted the extra, Points. Logue Intercepts Pass | Beginning the second half, the fleet | Logue of the visitors intercepted one of Agre’s passes at midfield and gal- loped unscathed to the goal line for Linton’s first counter. Agre had passed ; blindly after a bad pass from center} had gone over his head. Retaliating, Bismarck took the ball | down to within scoring distance aj short time later, but the Lions held steadfast with their backs to the wall. At this juncture Agre brought Bis- marck’s total to 30 points with a drop- | kick from the 16-yard line. | ‘That was the end of Bismarck’s of- | fensive performance for the evening. ‘Thereafter Linton had commayd of! the situation throughout, outplaying | the Capital City lads by a wide mar- gin. Early in the fourth quarter, Gra! received a pass from Logue and ran| 72 yards for a touchdown. Not a Bis- marck hand was laid on him as he} outsped the Demons. | A short time later Linton worked the ball to the two-yard line, from where Logue scored on fourth down on a sweeping end run in which he| was almost forced out of bounds. Aj plunge by Graf through the line pet-/ ted the 19th counter. Bismarck showed great potentiali-| ties in the first half but was outplay-! ed by a wide margin in the closing session, what with the Demon lineup, punctured often by replacements sent | in by Coach Roy D. McLeod. H Schneider, Agre Effective The play of Captain Schneider at end and Norman Agre in the backfield was outstanding. Agre kicked, passed and ran with finesse. tearing off one 35-yard run as the second quarter) terminated. Shafer and Neff also toré} off some good runs on off-tackle| slashes and end sweeps, Schneider Played a great defensive game but his effectiveness as a pass-receiver was lessened because of the fact Linton watched him closely. Quarterback Ollie Sorsdahl received one pass from | Agre which was good for a 25-yard} gain. Dick LaRue played a fine defensive game on the line, but. the entire De- mon front line showed its lack of ex- perience defensively and need of! polishing up. | Bismarck's next game will be Mon day, when the Demons travel we: meet Glendive, Mont., at the Mon- tana city. Mandan will play Bis- marck under floodlights at Hughes Field the evening of Friday, Sept. 29. The lineups: kc Linton Doegagle ; Kramer Maushund Lawyer T.
