Baskowitz was seized Monday night by five gunmen who snatched him His brother, known as Artie Bass and associated with Humbert Fugazy, an- other sports promoter, received a let- ter demanding $35,000. Artie proceeded to outtalk the kid- napers. He said, according to reports reaching police, that while he did not have a large sum handy at the mo- ment, his credit was good and he could pay $2,000 in time. Wednesday, Chief Inspector John J. Sullivan said the kidnaped man “really hasn't got 35 cents.” Whether that influenced the kidnapers was not known, but at any rate, a few hours iater, Baskowitz arrived in a taxicab at the Fugazy Bowl in Coney Island.
