Hence, the announcement that another of the O'Neill dramas Serves as the basis for a talking pic- ture will be greeted with the enthusi- sm that an event of such importance in film annals deserves. “The Constant Woman,” based on a Play by O'Neill, is the feature attrac- tion scheduled for presentation soon at the Capitol Theatre. Advance re- ports describe it as a photoplay of power, beauty and genuine dramatic intensity. Enacted by a stellar cast, ‘among whom are Conrad Nagel, Leila Hyams, Tommy Conlon and Claire Windsor, “The Constant Woman” is a picture not to be missed. The story revolves about the in- fluence which one woman wields— even after her death—over the lives pf three persons—her son, her hus- | ‘band, and a sympathetic actress whom she had known. When it is discover- ed that the wife had been unfaithful, and that her son’s father was not her ‘own husband, the latter loses his grip on life and becomes a derelict. The roung son, resenting the care which e “other woman” lavishes on his father, suspects their motives as an affront to his mother’s memory. When. ® dramatic climax proves that the “other woman” is willing to risk her own life to save him, the boy under- stands—and forgives. James C. Ryan, 63, Of Napoleon, Dies Napoleon, N. D., July 31—(P)— James C. Ryan, 63, Napoleon civic leader, died here Saturday from heart disease. Born in Minnesota, Ryan home- steaded south of Napoleon in 1903. fe moved into town in 1913 and had tesided here since except for two years residence at Braddock. He was Mayer's picturization of Robert E. Sherwood’s smashing Broadway stage hit of last season. In the new film, which comes tomorrow to the Para- mount Theatre, Barrymore plays the role of the impulsive and irresistible Hapsburg archduke, Rudolph, who returns to Vienna from exile to re- capture the memory of kisses that lingered long after the royal reign toppled and the glory of the glam- orous court life faded, This role, created on the stage by Alfred Lunt, with Lynn Fontanne in the feminine lead, is said to match Barrymore's individual talents and Personality with flawless fit. It fol- lows his acclaim in “Grand Hotel,” “Rasputin and the Empress,” “Bill of Divorcement” and “‘Topaze.” Diana Wynyard is the leading lady, filling the Fontanne role of Elena, the Viennese beauty -who marries an em- minent psychiatrist in an effort to forget the romance that swept her off her feet in the gay court days. Miss Wynyard, who made her film debut with Barrymore in “Rasputin and the Empress,” recently scored in “Cavalcade” and “Men Must Fight.” Her latest characterization is said to offer the finest opportunity of her career, Pod] hall a number of years and since associated with E.
