The story begins in Salem, Mass., travels across the continent to Mon- terey, Calif., and back again to Wash- » D. C., entwining with it the life threads of two people, following their joint careers from youth to old age. “Secrets” was filmed once before in the silent days, with Norma Tal- madge, in the stellar roles. Although ‘brought up to date in its current ver- sion, it has lost nothing of its savor and charm. A few small liberties have been taken, such as opening the story fm New England rather than in Eng- land, and closing it in Washington, D. C. The reason for this, we are told, is that Mary felt that an English ac- cent is foreign to her and would sound ertificial, thus reflecting upon the sincerity of her characterization. “Secrets” should certainly be seen during its engagement here, as it is unquestionably one of the great film entertainments of the year. * Bird migration baffled nature stu- dents of early times. Some authors thought birds buried themselves in mud through the winter, while some believed that migratory birds spent their vacation periods on the moon. Transform Stage Show to Picture One of the outstanding productions of the American stage has been trans- formed into what coast picture pre- viewers declare to be Marion Davies’ finest recent screen vehicle. “This film, “Peg O’ My Heart,” will begin an engagement tomorrow at the Capi- tol theater. Marion Davies has turned in any number of screen characterizations in the past, from “Little Old New York” to “Marianne” and “The Bachelor Father,” but the new production will take its place up with her greatest triumphs, in the opinion of critics who have already seen it. Laurette Taylor starred in the orig- inal stage presentation of “Peg O’' My Heart,” the winning and dramatic story of a motherless Irish girl sud- denly placed in an environment strange to her and confronted with the prospect of great riches. “Peg O' My Heart” was written for the stage by J. Hartley Manners, and played four seasons in New York and other lead- ing cities. Robert Z. Leonard, who directed Miss Davies in “It’s a Wise Child,” “The Bachelor Father” and other notable achievements, was her direc- tor in this new vehicle. A new lead- ing man appears opposite the star in this Cosmopolitan production. He is Onslow Stevens, who scored a great hit as the downtrodden author in “Once in a Lifetime,” and who has been lauded as one of the most likely candidates for future screen stardom.
