THE BISMARCK TRIB THURSDAY, JUNE 22, 1988 0. H. Will and Company Outfit Assumes Diamondball Loop Lead SEEDMEN CLOUT IN- -PINGHES 10 TRIM G. P. RESTAURANT Pitcher Matt Hummel Is Given| Great Support By His Team-Mates HOFFMAN IS HITTING STAR| Losers Make Five Errors; Sweet Shop Is Second, Work- men Third ! STANDINGS Won Lost Pet. ~5 3 625 3 2 600 4 3 Su 2 3 st 2 3 400 3 5 3% 1 3 2 Wednesday evening's game pro- duced a new leader in the Bismarck Giamondball league—the O. H. Will ‘6nd company entrant. The seedmen came from behind to Gefeat the G. P. Restaurant ten 12 to 11 in a slugfest— but not until they hed halted a desperate rally by the losers after they had scored three suns in the last frame. Failure to hit with men on bases ‘nd several costly errors robbed the G. P. of a chance to win. ‘The shuffling of the standings put the Sweet Shop in second place, with the A. O. U. W. and state highway department tied for third. Losers Made Five Misplays Although outhit 13 to 12, the plan- ters capitalized on five errors by the Chefs and hit in the pinches. M. Hummel granted the losers six ‘walks to first base, but was given great support by his mates, only one error being charged aganst the vic- tors. The restaurateurs rallied to score thrice in the seventh and had the ty- ang and winning runs on base when the last putout of the contest was registered. ‘The G. P. had a commanding 8-to-5 Jead at the end of the fifth frame but the seedmen went on a scoring ram- page in the sixth canto to knock Big ‘Ted Meinhover from the box. Davis felieved the tall one but was unable ‘to stop the planters until six scorers thad crossed home plate. Meinhover went back to pitch in the last inning and refused to grant ‘a hit, but three misplays by his mates gave the opponents their winning run. Hoffman Batting Star Hoffman was the chefs’ hitting star, getting three hits in four at- tempts, including a home run. For the seedmen, Wetch, Enge, M. Hum- mel and Priske each hit safely twice. Others to clout four-bases were Cow- an, Stackhouse and Kiesel. ‘The box score: O. H. Will (12) J. Spriggs, If Es M. Hummel, p. M. Winer, 3b. J. Zahn, cf. HOODOO n ADA mee G.P. Eat Shop (11) ©.
