EE SPOR Se a Ph RE THE BISMARCK TRIB ‘THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 1988 THE GUMPS— CLOUDS GATHERING “I like these, ma’am. They're so sheer nobody'’d guess you had any stockings on.” AT THE MOVIES | ‘Air Hostess’ Filmed Under Difficulties { If anybody in these United States | fhas the notion that aviation is still in its infancy, they should be wary about mentioning that idea to Al Rogell, James Murray or Evalyn, Knapp. For Rogell, as director, and Murray and Miss Knapp as principal players in the Columbia picture, “Air Hos- tess,” opening soon at the Capitol ‘Theatre, recently experienced four or five days of work at the Grand Cen- tral Airport, Glendale, Calif., and take it from them—an airport these days 4s just like a great railroad depot. Planes go and come all day long on their regular schedules—both pas- senger and mail planes—and then} there are scores of others—ships op- erated by private flyers or student pilots. Back in the days of silent pictures it would have been a simple matter to make scenes despite the roar of the huge planes, but with sound films it was necessary for the action to be | held up each time the roar of a mo- | tor was heard. The planes were tak- { ing off and landing with such regu- larity that often scenes were well ered before Risseter Rogell’s ar i noted a ship swooping out of the sky and ruining the scene. Tribune Want Ad Cash in With a Paramount Showing Big Scandal Picture “The Billion Dollar Scandal,” melo- drama of a nation-wide big-money swindle, which opens today at the Paramount Theatre, will continue its Tun there through tomorrow. Robert Armstrong heads the cast in the role of Fingers Partos, the hum- ble masseur and exconvict, who be- comes the man of the hour when he dares to talk, exposing a group of millionaire financiers as the perpetra- tors of a gigantic swindle. Constance Cummings appears in the feminine lead, as Doris Masterson, daughter of the leader of the swind- lers, a role played by Frank Morgan. Others of prominence are Olga Bac- lJanova as Fingers’ girl; James Glea- son and Warren Hymer as Ratsy and the Kid, his two pals; Frank Albert- son as his younger brother; Irving All bears are not vicious. The American black bear is no more dan- gerous to the hunter than a hog of the same size would be. Cats cannot see in absolute dark- jness. Their vision is unusually acute in the dusk, however. ’ WELL AS 1 TOLD You= WHEN } WALKED INTO THE DRUG STORE- WHO BID | Gyo SITTING THERE EATING ICECREAM, 5 So) SAMIN GUMP- 9) ANDER h AS BIG AS LIFE - BUY BEN g WITH — NOW - YOu HAVE Li J) CHARMING.
