e b By. MES. R. M. WELCH An epidemic of influenza has brok- schools in Boyd district closed dur-/ ing the week on account of the sick- ness. Mrs, Chester Boyd, who was quite ill in a Bismarck hospital for the last two weeks, is home again. Hugh McMurrich is staying with his mother, Mrs. Sara McMurrich, “this winter. McMurrich returned home the first of the week. He had ben working previously for James Mc- Donald. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Skinner, Mr. and .Mrs. Qtto Dorman and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Welch motored to Bismarck with turkeys Tuesday. Morris and Doris Skinner visited at Boyd school No. 1 Tuesday while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Skinner, were in Bismarck. Jimmie Dirlam visited school at Boyd No. 1 one afternoon the middle of the week while his parents were in Bismarck. Glen Baker called at the Robert Welch home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ishmael and it- tle daughter, accompanied by Russel Tollefson, started by motor Saturday for Mr. Ishmael’s parents’ home in Ilinois. Several of the young people of the community played cards at the E. E. Baker home Wednesday evening. Lawrence Doppler assisted Jack Ishmael in dressing turkeys the latter part of the week. Mr. Ishmael took his turkeys in @ trailer and will mar- ket them in Chicago while enroute to his parents’ home in the east. Mrs, John Welch took her little nephew, Lester Stull, to a doctor this week. The little boy has quite serious throat trouble. Marcus Trembley visited at the Sara McMurrich home Sunday after- noon. Lawrence Doppler visited at the Otto Dorman home Sunday evening. He called at the E. E. Baker and Ro- bert Welch places while enroute home. Luella Tollefson, teacher of Boyd No. 1, is quite ill with influenza, and will not open school until Wednesday of next week. Miss Neugebauer of Boyd No. 2 is ill also, and closed her school for an indefinite length of time the middle of this week. Oscar and Margaret Hagstrom mo- tored to Bismarck Friday for Misses Naomi and Ingrid Hagstrom who have been attending the Valley City and Dickinson State Teachers’ colleges. The Misses Hagstrom are spending the holidays at their home. Mrs. Ed. Broehl and daughter, Hel- en, Arlene, Leo and Walter Strand, Ivan Bigler, Conrad Johnson and Wilbur and Ival Noon were Bismarck callers Monday. Vernon Johnson and Ruben Pearson called at the Clarence Falkenstein home Friday. All the Scandinavians in this com- munity are planning to attend the early Christmas morning service which will be held in the Pentecostal church in Regan and conducted by Rev. A. Christianson, pastor. The Grass Lake Bell Telephone Co. held a stockholders meeting in Grass Lake school No. 2 Friday afternon. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Asplund enter- tained Mr. and Mrs. John Asplund and sons, Loyde, Kenneth, and Ro- bert, and Mr. and Mrs. Walfred As- plund and daughter, Doris, at dinner Sunday. Miss Margaret Johnson, who. has been teaching in Trygg township for the past few months, returned to her home Tuesday evening where she will] ‘ spend the Christmas holidays, also a three-month vacation, after which she will return to her school duties; as the weather will be warmer. Miss Velma Johnson returned home the same éve- ning after having visited with Miss Margaret since Sunday. Misses Inger and Solveg Nord of near Regan visited with their brother- in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hedstrom, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Johnson visited with Mrs, Signe Johnson Sunday.
