McDonnell on an application by the village of Bow- man for reduced electric and natural gas rates. The village board, consisting of A. J. Ommodt, H. C. Brandenberg and Ed De Bode, asserted in its complaint that prevailing rates ‘for electricity and gas are higher here than is charg- ed elsewhere in North Dakota for similar services and should be reduc- ed. Both services are furnished to residents of the village by the Mon- tana-Dakota Power company. Extensive researches, including a 40-page exhibit of gas and electric costs\were presented at the hearing by Charles F. Martin, chief statistician for the railroad board. This had to do with the statistical and financial Phases of the utility business as it affected the Bowman complaint. James Wiley, chief enginger for the railroad board, supplemented these data with testimony regarding the condition and replacement cost of the utility properties affected. He of- fered an exhibit showing each item in the company's physical property. Testimony of a similar nature was presented by representatives of the company, who contested the applica- tion for reduced rates.
