Business is brisker and there is a freer circulation of money. a ~ And yet, somehow, these things don’t loom up nearly so important as we had dreamed they would. For if you take away a man’s soft bed he’ll learn in time to sleep as soundly. on spruce boughs. And bacon and eggs have the same friendly savor ona tin plate- that they had on fragile china. We've found again the old front-stoop and fireside friendliness that. most of us loved in those bright days before the war. We’ve learned to cherish people just for the joy, that’s in their presence and the warmth that’s in their hearts. We've been drawn closer to the soil that bred us and to the rugged Americanism our fathers knew. Yes, “peace hath its victories no less renowned than war.” We’ve learned to be folks again. We’ve gained a truer value of that type of Democracy so bravely strived for by those to whom we do homage today.
