While this act is not all that we and agriculture had hoped for, it did constitute the most ad- vanced step yet taken in perfecting ture in the administration of such relief measures as have been written by congress and approved by the president. NEW PICTURES WILL BE ENTERTAINING Local Theater Man Says Forth- coming Productions Will Be Sensational Several months ago there came a sudden cessation in the torrent of news which normally pours from Hol- lywood’s studios. In its place there was a strange silence and a blanket Of secrecy. Movie fans began to tell themselves that something mysterious was brewing, and they were right, according to Robert Nippert, local theater manager, who has just re- turned from a national convention of motion picture producers, held in Minneapolis. It seems that the motion picture makers some months ago got togeth- er and decided a new perspective was needed in the studios if the industry intended to make the powerfully en- tertaining pictures which are neces- sary to attract good audiences in these times. It was essential that the sto- Ties and scenarios be selected with greater care than ever before. They needed to be backed up by the finest make fewer pictures but much better ones. Every picture scheduled for produc- tion during the coming season must be given an outstanding cast, and it was decided that in the forthcoming screen entertainments the stars would be allowed to portray their roles graphically, vividly, giving free ex- pression to the individual character and talent of each player. Further- more, it was agreed that the new sea- son’s pictures would be given extra strength by using not only one star name in the cast but two or three and maybe more, in a single produc- tion. This, according to Nippert, is the big secret which has caused Holly- wood's announcers to talk in whis- pers while they waited results, for when this startling new policy was adopted the studios immediately dropped everything, cloaked them- selves in secrecy, and devoted every thought and effort to the prepara- tion of sensationally different screen tare for the new movie season which is about to start. Now the results of all this are known. A number of the new pictures are nearing completion, and in just a few weeks the threatre- going public is promised a parade of sensational shows, vastly more enter- taining and finer in every respect than those to which it has been ac- customed since the screen gained its voice.
