| | | SPECIAL SERVICE AND CONCERT END CONVENTION SUNDAY Seven Officers Reelected by N. D. Luther’ League and Choral Union Special services and a concert by a choral union of 200 voices Sunday brought to an end the biennial three- day convention of the North Dakota Luther League and Choral Union here. Rev. Opie 8. Rindahl, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, who made local arrangements for the session, characterized the convention as “one of the best we have ever had.” Large crowds’ attended the serv- ices and concert in the World War Memorial building and the morning program was broadcast by the local radio station. Dr. J. A. Aasgaard, Minneapolis, president of the North Dakota dis- trict of the Lutheran church, install- ed the newly-elected officers of the organization following Dr. Aasgaard’s sermon. Seven of the eight officers were reelected Saturday afternoon. They were Rev. A. O. Nesset, Leeds, president; Rev. Rindahl, vice presi- dent; Miss Hilda J. Wisnes, Minne- waukan, secretary; J. C. GETS GENEROUS RAINFALL High Winds Prevai State Sunday Dry up Surface Moisture High winds prevailing over North Dakota Sunday caused some damage to small grain crops by drying up considerable surface soil moisture but the parched western part of the state received a generous rainfall Sunday evening. O. W. Roberts, federal meteorolo- gist here, said rain in the near future is needed greatly because of the high winds. The wind began early in the morn- ing here and continued until evening, reaching a maximum velocity of 36 miles per hour. The forecast is for general fair weather Monday night and Tuesday with cooler temperatures in prospect Monday evening. Beach received 1.63 inches precipita- tion ina near cloudburst Sunday evening. Other points in the state reported rainfall as follows: Bismarck .07, Dickinson .87, Dunn Center .80, Williston .62, Pembina .29, Crosby .29, Sanish .29, Portal .22, Ellendale .01, Jamestown .06, Minot .02, and Car- rington .22. Bismarck’s moisture deficiency since Jan. 1 was 88 of an inch Monday morning, Roberts said. Precipitation since the first of the year has totaled 4.89 inches here. McKenzie and Williams counties reported soaking rains, with about a half-inch recorded in the Arnegard and Watford districts.
