EMMONS MYSTERY Officials Seek Clues to Assail- ant of Aged Man on Farm Near Livona Hazelton, N. D., April 18.—(@)— Emmons county authorities are con- tinuing their investigation into the mysterious attack on George Corbin, 80-year-old Livona farmer, last Feb- ruary. Corbin for many weeks was un- conscious and near death, but has shown considerable improvement re- jcently. His physician expects him ito make a complete recovery. The aged man was found in a pool of blood at the foot of the cellar steps jin his home at Livona shortly after jmidnight February 18 by members ,of the family. He apparently had been struck from behind with a sharp instrument, probably an axe, which ‘left a gash above the right ear. Members of the family advanced jthe theory that the person who at- tacked him also sought to drug the jother members of the household. An odor in the house at the time of the |attack caused the members of the household to become ill. A blood- stained ax was found in the yard the next morning. Followirig his injury and partial re- icovery, Corbin contracted smallpox \which was followed a few days later with a stroke of apoplexy.
