But- - ler Thursday to “starvation ag- gravated by fright” following activities by “night riders.” John Wallace, 65-year-old ne- gro who lived with Bullen, told the coroner he had been abducted by “nght riders” a week ago, taken into the woods in south- west Caddo Parish, stripped, whipped, and returned with his hair painted gteen, his chest red and the rest of his body daubed with a color mixture. Hjs appearance, he said, af- fected Bullen’s appetite and he was unable to eat. Bullen, Wal- lace said, was so frightened that he began to talk for the first time since he became apparently deaf and dumb four years ago. Bul- len died Wednesday. Trial of Alleged Bank Robber Opens Hillaboro, N. D., March 24.—(?)— Details of the purported “frameup” to loot the First National Bank of Reynolds were outlined Wednesday by George Bradshaw, former bank cash- jer, as the First witness for the state in the trial of Ed F. Doran, Grand Forks. * Doran is charged with grand lar- ceny in connection with the $1,900 robbery of the bank Jan. 21. The State presented six. witnesses in addi- tion to Bradshaw during the second day of the trial before Judge M. J. Englert of Valley City in district court here. The Trajll county, court room was so packed with spectators that even the attorneys were crowded for room. Bradshaw, under a one- to three- year sentence for his confessed part in the holdup, was cross-examined by Francis Murphy, Doran's attorney. The addition brings the total of na- tional fraternities on the university campus to 11 and reduces the local | fraternities to three. Founded April 10, 1933, by a group! af nine students, Alpha Psi Delta has! expanded until it now has 28 active and 19 pledge members, in addition to 110 alumni. Theta Chi was founded at Norwich university, Northfield, Va., in 1856. and has 48 chapters lecated in ali parts of the United States. Burbage, 68, a resident of Bismarck for nearly 30 years, died suddenly at his home here at 1:30 p. m. Thursday. Death is believed to have resulted from heart disease. Apparently in good health, he succumbed just after finishing his noon meal. Alone at the time of his death, he was discov- ered seated in a chair by members of his family. A native of Ireland, Burbage came to Bismarck in 1903. He had operat-|! ed a dray line here and was actively engaged in the business at the time of his death. He leaves three sons, Alfred, Ber- nard, and Ernest, and a_ brother,’ John, as well as several other rela- tives in Bismarck. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
