Fashion Has Gone ‘Military’ For Spring Styles; Shoulders Broad ;Trim High Waist Lines With ‘ Slenderizing Lines - Be- - t low. Are Popular Hints of Spring are here, there, and everywhere. In Spring coats the spir- it of this gay season, is captured and expressed in new exciting lines, fa- brics and colors, Fashion has. gone Military—but 8 “dress parade” sort of military. ‘The —————— ‘also good and some bright colors are ahown, ne Wooden Soldier silhouette is evident chilly in all types of spring Coats. . It gives Us broad shoulders, trim high waist Hat and slenderizing lines below the wal The trend for broad shoulders is a natural outcome of the winter's fash- ion for bulk-above-the-waist. Padd- ed ‘shoulders and epaulettes add a youthful note of interest, while more conservative styles use raglan shoul- ders and intricate seaming to empha- size ‘this feature. Shoulder width ac- Centuates the narrow waist line. Waist Lines are Higher Waist lines have. been creeping up on us and have now adapted them- selves to the simple natural lines of the new mode. The belted or defined waist line, however, remains normal, With moulding above. This is not an extreme style and is really vastly becoming and wearable. The skirts of coats are cut straight the waist line with a wide wrap-around to give the necessary width when in motion. They are fastened to the side, most frequently with buttons, but some models use soft ties of the same fabric. Pullness at some point is still a feature of sleeve interest but in a modified form. Width is usually con- centrated between the elbow and the wrist. Cuffs are often button-trim- med or a narrow buttoned band. The Vionne¥-inspired sleeve with width at the bottom is shortened to three- quarter length when fur trimming is applied. Larger Buttons Used Buttons are. big and business like. They play a very important part in the fashion picture but their first duty is to fasten the coat to stay in place. There is no more holding of coats which was a graceful but impractical gesture. New coats are designed for comfort and are easy to wear with their clean cut mannish neatness, Detachable and adjustable trimming {s good news. While the general sil- houette is fairly uniform we can ex- Press our individuality by means of changeable scarf of fur or fabric, dif- ferent color combination and high or Jow neck lines. Coat fabrics this Spring have an eye to sudden showers. We will all be thankful for rough surfaced wool- ens which are so easy to care for, and do not spot as readily as the fab- rics of smoother finish. Crepey weaves, interesting new diagonals which have a tendency to slenderize and a variety of rich novelty weaves dominate the fashion picture. Military Mode in Coats The sport coat is the most adapta- ble medium for the military vogue. Rows of shiny buttons are arranged with military. precision, up one side to a high closing, or in double-breast- ed formation. Bright scarfs give a colorful accent while softening the neck line. Lyolene has designed, several mod- els which are already in high favor and promise to be favorites for Spring as popular prices, Linings and scarfs are of contrasting jersey and of silk for later in the season. The scarf can be tied high at the throat with a youthful bow, on the model with solf revers, or looped over and pulled out between the but- tons of @ high shoulder buttoned! model. vorite color combination for this type sport coat. Tans and browns are Navy blue with red is a fa- ’ VOTE NO or loose , they are very smart and wearable for many occa- sions. In fact it is the comfortable soft and becoming features that make all these new coats so exciting. Pique trim adds zest to some of the youthful ‘models. 2,000 Residents of Williston Immunized Williston, N.
