Farmers are cautioned to exercise care in using the preparation, which is poisonous. A mask should be worn over the nose when treating with cop- per carbonate dust and treating should be done in a well-ventilated ace. If full-strength copper carbonate is used, two to two and one-half ounces of dust to each bushel of wheat is sufficient. If a diluted preparation is used, three to four ounces per bushel, Putnam said. Seed should be thoroughly cleaned of smut balls before treatment.
