Editor, Tribune: I just want to say a word about the capital removal that the Jamestown Sun is playing up so strong at this time. Nine out of ten voters in this vicinity are for keeping the capital where it is, and in my own personal opinion where it should stay. Jamestown don’t care what be- comes of the central and western part this letter in part, or whole, or re- hashed as you see fit, and I just |wanted the Bismarck Tribune to |know how the majority feel down in \this corner of the state. Yours truly, J. FP, PERCIVAL, Oakes, N. Dak. Editors Note: The Tribune is glad to receive Mr. Percival’s letter and to learn how the residents of Oakes feel on the capital removal proposal. He is in error, however, in the statement that Minot has no state institution, since a state teach- er's college is located there. The only city among the first 10 in the state which has no state institution is Williston. LIKES CAPITAL SITE Baldwin, N. D. January 30, 1931. Editor, Tribune: , It may be that I am writing too often. Some folks may criticize me about it, but I know there are a lot of North Dakota, as long as they get a/ more that would do just as I do, new capitol building, and as for that! would they know my opinion. I have big ballyhoo they are making about'a little to say about Bismarck and the the people living so far away from the state capital, just how many of the population of North Dakota want to go to the state capital to see what is going on every day, or week, or year for that matter. Tt would save our state senators from the eastern part of the state a few gallons of gas and a quart or two of oil on each trip to the capital, but the senator's from the west and other statesmen would get a little cheaper trip if we just keep the capital at Bismarck. Jamestown has one state institution, Fargo has one, Grand Forks has two, but Jamestown would like to have the mill moved down if it can be ar- ranged. Well here is a suggestion. The next time North Dakota has a plum to pass out, they should re- member 2 town on the Great North- ern main line, that has built itself up by just being a convention city, and although it has never had any patronage of a state institution, it now has a population of well over 10,000 and it is known as the Magic) City. I believe the North Dakota state capital should stay at Bismarck, as do dozens of the citizens of Oakes that I have talked to, and you may be sure that we will know how to vote when the time comes. CHILDREN’S DAY AND NIGHT SERVICE Time istate capital. It is true the capitol | building was destroyed by fire. I saw the smoke right from my farm and I | surely felt sorry that it burned, but it happened. The first time I’ saw the capitol was on the second day of May, 1891, when I was a boy 12 years old. The location then drew my at- tention and I have ever since ad- mired the site. Bismarck should be selected with the old site for the new capitol for the following reasons: First, our forefathers selected that place for the capitol. Second, it is as near in the center of the state on a main line railroad, (N. P.) as you can make it. Third, is it just for Jamestown to expect the state capital? To enlighten you voters I am giving the following miles of U. S. highway No. 10: From Fargo to Jamestown, 96.5 miles; to Bismarck, 199.5 miles; to Montana line 369 miles. It was un- fair for whosoever started the petition for Jamestown as it is by all means |too much to one side. Fourth, it has its own water. If I | thought that our state would be ben- | efited by removing the site, even then |I would stop and think twice before |I would cast my vote for removing the {site. I have just that much more re- {spect for our forefathers. As it is I | See a big loss to our state by remov- |ing the capital away from Bismarck and I hope that all Tribune readers jsee it the same as I do. Vote and {work for Bismarck as the state cap- |ital site. I am a voter and tax payer. JULIUS MEYER. ne ® FROM ADAMS COUNTY Petrel, N. D. Jan. 27, 1932.
