ees Ss ee ae ae CITY'S ADVANTAGES “WILL BE IMPRESSED UPON YOUNG MINDS Letter Dealing With Bismarck Included in Widely Used Typewriter Manual Advantages of Bismarck will be im- pressed upon the minds of more than @ million young men and women in the next few years, it was announced Friday by H. P. Goddard, secretary of the Association of Commerce. A letter, describing Bismarck and setting forth its many advantages, written by Goddard, is used as one of the lessons in a typewriting manual to be distributed throughout the Unit- ed States and Canada in the near fu- ture. Only Dosen Represented Only about a dozen cities are repre- sented by such letters in the manual, and Bismarck is the only city in the ba me to receive such recogni- tion. Goddard, when he wrote the letter, ‘was unaware of its purpose. It is used as an object lesson, to be typed by college students, in the Walton-Mac- Jean Typewriting Procedure and Prac- tice, published by the Walton Publish- ing company, Chicago, firm which supplies books to schools and colleges all over the English-speaking world. The body of the letter follows: “Bismarck is in the west central part of the state, on the east bank of the Missouri. “The population, according to the 1980 U. 8. census, is 11,081, The in- crease in the last 10 years has been 55 per cent. Area ‘Trading “Bismarck is the distributing center and retail trading -point for an area of country extending practically 100 miles in every direction. “Agriculture is the principal means of support. There is not much here as yet, in the way of industrial insti- tutions. The Armour Company has a large creamery and produce plant here, The Bridgeman-Russell Com- pany also operates at this point. “The city is beautifully located, be- ing built on the hills overlooking a beautiful valley. There are 2 miles of paved streets.
