LIFE POLICIES WORTH 380 MILLION State Paid Premium Bill of| $10,698,838 on Life In- surance in 1930 Policies held by North Dakotans in| life insurance companies and fra- ternal benefit societies authorized to do business in the state have a face value of $379,945,792.94. Records in the office of S. A. Ols- ness, state insurance commissioner, show that at the beginning of this year there were 210,263 life insurance policies and fraternal benefit certifi- cates in force. North Dakota paid a premium bill totaling $10,698,838.39 on these classes of insurance during 1930. Benefits realized during the year in the state aggregated $2,765,861.98. On Jan. 1, there were 142,365 life insurance policies in force, amount- ing to $283,429,628.07. Premiums paid totaled $8,426,590.58, and losses in- curred $1,935,859.25. Losses paid were $1,858,595.80. Life insurance compa- nies wrote 18,551 policies amounting to $37,502,951.05 during the year, while 17,811 policies amounting to $36,252,995.59 ceased to be in force during the year. Fraternal benefit societies had 67,- 888 certificates in force, amounting to $96,516,164.87 at the beginning of this year. A total of $2,272,247.81 was received in premiums during 1930, while claims reported totaled $1,875,- 993.09, and claims paid $907,276.13. During the year 11,553 certificates were written, amounting to $17,554,- 855.69. Records show life insurance busi- ness increased during 1930 over the previous year when 141,625 policies amounting to $282,179,672.61 were in force. Fraternal benefit societies had less certificates in force Jan. 1, 1930, than Jan. 1, 1931, There were 73,030 cer- tificates, amounting to $105,502,659.68 in force Jan. 1, 1930, while the fol- lowing year this dropped to 67,888 certificates, amounting to $96,516,- 164.87.
