Last Month One of Warmest and Wettest Septembers in History Last month was one of the warmest and wettest Septembers experienced in Bismarc& since the U. S. weather bureau was estabilshed here in 1875, according to the monthly meteoro: logical summary issed by O. W. Rob- erts, federal meteorologist here. The mean temperatures here last month was 63 degrees, making it the warmest September since 1908 and one of the four warmest Septembers in 57 years. The other warm Septem- bers were in 1908, when the mean was 63 also; in 1906, when it was 64; and in 1897, when the mean mercury reading was 67 degrees. The normal for September is 58.1 degrees. Last month did set up a new heat record, however, when the mercury reached 105 degrees, the highest Sep-| tember reading on record here. 37 Degrees Coldest The mean temperature here last | month was 37 degrees on Sept. 26. ‘The greatest daily range was 46 de- 21 clear days, five partly cloudy, and four cloudy. Precipitation totaling |.01 of an inch or more fell on eight days and it hailed for four minutes j the evening of Sept. 29. Thunder- storms occurred on Sept. 6, 7, 16, 19, 20, and 29. Light frost was recorded on the 23rd and 26th. Mean relative humidity for last } month was 80 at 7 a. m,, 47 at noon, and 48 at 7 p. m. Prevailing wind direction was from the east. Wind traveled 5,692 miles at an average hourly velocity of 7.9. The maximum velocity for five min- utes was 31 miles per hour from the inorthwest on the 29th. The record | wind velocity for the month is 58 miles per hour from the north, re- corded in 1877. ‘The man atmospheric pressure was ;29.85, the highest being 30.39 on the ‘23rd and the lowest 29.38 on the 20th. Collings fail- ed to identify them as the “pirates” who -recently boarded the Collings yacht on Long Island Sound, killed her husband and abducted her.
