THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1931 THE GUMPS—~A FOOL THERE WAS New Salem Farmer Builds Trench Silo New Salem, N. D., Sept. 28.—Fred Klusman has just completed a trench silo on his tarm. It is the first of its kind on the North Dakota Hol-| stein Breeding circuit, according to H. Buss, superintendent of the New Salem association. i The silo has a capacity of 88 tons, more than enough to carry Klus- man’s herd of 18 head through the winter. Klusman estimates he will save 20/ per cent by feeding his corn as silage rather than fodder. Klusman and his son, Clarence, following their motto of “Cull low producers and keep a good herd sire,” . have improved their herd greatly in the last five years. H In 1925 this herd had an average Preduction of 6,578.3 pounds of milk! and 227.5 pounds of butterfat. In| 1930 the same herd had an average_| Production of 10,425.8 pounds of milk | and 375.8 pounds of butterfat. D WHAT BDO WELL - | SEE YOU MEAN = YOU'RE UP Yo GOSSIPING YOUR OLD YRICKS- Me AGAIN ?
