Under Way But Prospects Are for Small- in Years McClusky, N. D., Aug. 14.—Harvest- ing of rye and other early sown fields of small grain or such fields as will be harvested this season, is well un- der way in Sheridan county, with in- dications that the 1931 grain crop will be the lightest in many years. In some instances fields will not be cut, but will be use; Many fields will be cu’ heavy growth of weeds, for pasture. for feed. The especially Ruszian thistles, pitching grass and wild oats, will cut yields consider- ably. Recent rains have caused many being green and other nearly ready for harvest. John M. Jasmann, who farms north- west of McClusky; said Thursday that he would cut his entire crop for feed. Jasmann is convinced that his grain, yused for feed for livestock, will mean much more than. if harvested. and threshed, when harvesting and thresh- ing costs are considered. ‘That crops in the area from eight to 18 miles northwest of McClusky are better than in this immediate vicinity, is evidenced by the fact that many of the fields further north will be harvested with binders, Jasmann said he had seen at least one field of barley northwest of here that would yield 30 bushels to the acre. Mrs. Christina Gordon, 10 miles northwest, is harvesting wheat with a binder, and reports a fair crop. Gust Nording, two miles south of town, stated that he would start har- vesting soon, although there would be very little to harvest. Weeds are nearly the same height as the heads of grain, he said.
