7 al Tribune’s Grain, Livestock and | Market Report for Wed., July 22 STOCK MART DROPS AFTER FIVE DAYS OF GRADUAL ADVANCING Prominent Shares Fali Despite Practical Paralysis of Aft- ernoon Trading New York, July 23.—()}—The atock market slumped dully Wednesday, after five sessions of gradually ad- vancing prices. Several prominent shares lost 3 to more than 4 points, although trading ‘was all but paralyzed for a time in the afternoon, and the turnover of a mil- lion shares or less made the session one of the dullest of the past five years, Weakness of the foreign markets, and disturbing fumors regarding Ger- many’s internal political situation, as the London conference has failed to. bring any highly cheering develop- ment, were reflected in Wall street. The German government bonds again broke badly, and foreign exchanges were generally weak. There were fractional recoveries from the lowest in the final dealings Wall Street financial circles were generally coming to the view litt: could be hoped from the London con- ference save sanction for the plan already in effect in New York and London, by which bankers are co- operating to maintain the volume of their short term credits in Germany. While speculative quarters have been inclined to hope for something more cheering, several legding bankers have held to this view for several days. The weekly steel trade reviews were somewhat depressing, failing to bear out estimates Tuesday that steel pro- duction had held about unchanged from the previous week. News from the petroleum industry was ¢1 ing, although the. oll shares failed to continue their recent advance. °° —— ts [Produce Markets | o- a CHICAGO PRODUCE Chicago, July 22.—(?)—Butter had an unsettled tone today and prices ranged from steady to tic lower.
