The trees’ are carefully ‘pruned and sprayed against the attacks of insects or pests. The orchard land is syste- matically tilled and fertilized. When the fruit has set and at- tained a certain age in the early sum- mer, it is thinned by removing the apples that touch upon others or that would prevent the tree bearing the ————— eee shipped to all parts of the United States but go in refrigerated snips to every civilized country. Reports from the orchard districts state that the crop of Jonathon ap- is one of the finest ever produced there, both as to the quality of the fruit and as to color. The Jonathan is a fall apple and, while modern storage methods enable these apples to be kept for several months, they. are at their best when eaten in Sep- tember or October.
