BUTTER EATEN AT + TRAINING SCHOOL | McClelland Says No Oleomar- garine Purchased for More Than a Year Past No justifiable complaints will be heard about the Mandan state train- ing school selling milk and buying olemargarine, Superintendent W. F. McClelland said today. The ques- tion was raised in view of a recent demand by the Lions club at Bis- marck that the state penitentiary there quit the practice. ‘The fact that such procedure was & | poor way to support the dairy indus- try in this state was called to his at- tention more than a year ago, Mc- Clelland said, and the state training school has not purchased a pound of oleomargarine since. It sells some milk to @ local cream- ery and takes back butter in return, he said. Usually, he said, the money received for the milk just about bal- ances the butter purchases but at some seasons it is necessary to pay out more for butter than is received for milk. This arrangement is practically a necessity, McClelland said, in view of the fact that the training school has |no facilities for churning butter in large quantities which are necessary ;to supply the institution.
