County auditors, precinct officials, and the staffs of every daily news- * paper in the state will aid in the $ task of collecting the returns. Officials in the state’s 2,228 precincts will fur- nish the figures shortly after the closing of the. polls. The. state has been divided into » zones, with a member newspaper of the Associated Press responsible for obtaining returns from the counties ‘in their zone. The returns for the county will be compiled by the county auditors .who, in turn, will furnish them to the newspaper covering the zone. Returns collected by the newspap- ers will ‘immediately be transmi to Fargo by telephone and telegraph ; for compilation of. returns from over the entire state. A. separate telegraph circuit will connect the offices of the daily news- papers. for bringing returns to the * Fargo tabulation bureau. By this + method, the daily newspapers of the |) state will be in constant communica- tion with the Associated Press’ tabu- lation bureau, not only for sending returns from their zones, but for the receipt of news: giving the standing of candidates. The Tribune has arranged for com- pilation of returns from counties in the Slope zone. Standings of the various candi- dates will be announced from time to time to the newspapers, which will have: the daformation available for publication, Special: telegraph and telephone facilities have been arranged for op-: eration.of the election machine. Tele- phone circuits have been installed so that precinct officials may report to their county auditors the votes in their districts as soon as they are available.
