And probably I wouldn't half cover the field, either. One thing that strikes me as a rather common error is in the choice of a club to play out of such places. Duffers I have seen seem to think the niblick is the one club to’use in such @ situation and that that is the; only use for such a club. Of course that is not true. The nib- lick is the club when explosion shots are necessary, but one should never attempt an explosion shot when any other method of getting out remains. Let Putter Do the Work In traps where there is no trench between the sand and the side of the bunker, most any club is better than @ niblick and in shallow traps where no especial loft is required, a putter is frequently the best club to use. ~ As a matter of fact, I believe the duffer who gets wild-eyed and afraid, the minute he gets into sand will find it to his advantage to think over the possibilities of getting out’ with the putter first. Then if he. finds that the putter doesn’t answer his purpose, he should go on up'the line of clubs until he decides on one with which he can feel certain vs getting out.
