Chamber of Commerce Will! ; Elect Seven New Directors Newton, Dahners, Schultze, Ro- vig, Rea, Morck: and sTostevin Retire GOVERNOR SHAFER SPEAKS Mandan Organization Will Hold ‘Annual Banquet-Meeting “This Evening Seven new directors will be elected ‘at the annual meeting tonight of the Mandan Chamber of Commerce. ‘The annual session will open with @ banquet at the Lewis and Clark hotel with the business of electing the new directors scheduled to come dur- ing the banquet program, according to A. W. Furness, secretary. The ‘banquet is scheduled for 6:30 o'clock. Retiring directors are J. H. Newton, H. L. Dahners, F. C. R. Schultze, J. I. ~Rovig, F:. O. Rea, Oscar Morck, and E. A. Tostevin. Only Mr. Rea and , Mrs. Tostevin, who are completing the “unexpired terms of E. A. Erickson and John Hintgen, are eligible for Te- election. Governor George F. Shafer will be the feature speaker on the program. KILLDEER, BALFOUR BATTLE IN MANDAN Two Northern Teams Clash for Right to Compete in State Consolidated Meet . Mandan will see two championship high school basketball games at the state training school gymnasium this week, Tuesday night at 8-p, m. Killdeer end Balfour will clash for the title in their district and the right to com- pete in the state consolidated tourna- ment at Valley City this week-end. Each {s victor in its consolidated sub- district. Friday night Mandan and Bismarck will meet for the title in Region C and the right to enter the state tour- nament at Mandan March 21 and 22. Members of the Killdeer squad are John Ross, captain, and Joseph Ouk- rop, guards; Bruce Johnson, center; Lester Lawhead and Harold Sund, forwards; and James Ross, reserve. Kjelland, Hatton, prom- inent in state American Legion Aux- iliary circles will meet with a Mandan committee at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning in regard to a suitable me- morial for Carl Ben Eielson, Hatton’s world-famous flyer who met death in Siberia Nov. 9. ‘The Mandan committee probably will be made up of representatives of the Lions and Rotary clubs, American Legion and American Legion Auxil- jary, the Mandan city commission, and civic organizations. ANDREW PLAUSTON DIES AT SWEETBRIAR |e Native of Scotland Had Lived in Morton County for Last Twenty-six Years Andrew Plauston, 43, resident of Morton county for the last 26 years, died at his farm home near Sweet- briar at 2 a. m. Sunday, Death was due to a complication of diseases and heart trouble, from which he had suf- fered 10 years. Funeral services will be conducted at 1p. m. Wednesday at the Kennel- ly Funeral parlors, Mandan, with Rev. Gilbert W. Stewart, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Mandan, officiating. Interment will be made in the Mandan cemetery. Andrew Plauston was born in Ork- ney Island, Scotland, June 22, 1886. ‘When 17-years old he came to the United States, settling directly in Morton county, where he was em- Ployed in farming work. He was married in 1918. He leaves his widow and three children, Elsie, 10, Kenneth, 9, and Betty Jean, 7. He also leaves two brothers, James and Davis, both liv- ing near Sweetbriar, and five sisters.’ The sisters are Mrs. Richard W. Longfellow, Lewiston, Idaho; Mrs. E. E. LeGrant, Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Joe Brown, Courtenay; and Mrs. J. L. ‘West and Mrs. Joseph McGinnis, both of Sweetbriar. Pallbearers will be chosen from among his intimate friends at Sweet- briar. Higgins Is Candidate For State’s Attorney. Milton K. Higgins has announced formally he will run for state’s at- torney of Morton county against Louis H. Connolly, incumbent. Gossip has had it the last few weeks that Mr. Higgins would be a candidate but he did not commit him- self until over the week-end.
