The total value of the five classes of livestock is estimated to be $110,016,000 as com- pared with $111,252,000, the revised value of these same classes on Jan- uary 1, 1929 and $97,025,000 on Jan- uary 1, 1928, With the exception of mules, the value per head of each of the classes has decreased in com- parison with values one year ago. A steddy increase in number of cattle on farms has ocurred since 1927. ‘The 7 per cent increase indicated by the present estimate is the largest in- crease occurring since that date. The total value is estimated to be $63,862,~ 0CO compared with $61,765,000 last year. The average value per head of $51.70 is $1.80 below the 1929 value. Approximately 350,000 head of cattle and calves were shipped to stockyards and packing plants from North Da- «ota during 1929. Cows used for milk and heifers one to two years old to be used for milk cows show a decided increase as com- pared with one year ago.
