President Hoover hooked a 45 pound sail fish today soon after beginning his week of angling off the Florida keys and landed it after a half hour's vigorous fight. It is his first vaca- tion since assuming office 11 months ago. Accompanied by Justice Harlan E. Stone of the U. S. supreme court, Mark Sullivan, writer and news- Paperman, and Dr. Vernon Kel- logg, thé chief executive whirred out the first line of his angling vacation from the stern of the “goofus boy” about the middle of the morning. The quartet embarked in the little fishing craft shortly after they had complet- ed breakfast aboard the “saunterer” which was chartered from Jeremiah Milbank for the trip. . The “Goofus Boy” pulled away from the “saunterer,” which had anchored about a mile off Long Key in the Gulf of Mexico and passed around the island to the Atlantic ocean and the prolific fishing banks of the area. He said he didn’t need any sea duty just at present. Mr. and Mrs. Hoover apparently were not tired by their long train journey, and both greeted the crews of the two boats by shaking hands all around. Mrs. Hoover called each sailor by name and asked particularly for one or two members of the “Kil- kenny” crew. She accompanied Mr. Hoover on several fishing trips aboard “The Kilkenny” when he was secretary entirely of fishermen down from the north greeted the president as he came out of his car. When the boat was reached he stood at the head of the gangplank for a moment to pose. “Get along and let’s get through with this,” he said. Mrs. Hoover and the remainder of the party went be- low. Chevalier is to be seen, and heard in a picture New York critics unanimously agree is the musie cal production to come to the audible screen, In “The Love Parade” Chevalier sings, dances and, inasmuch as the picture's action takes place in the mythical kingdom of Sylvania, makes love to the most beaut Queen it is. Possible to imagine. In support of Chevalier is Jeanette MacDonald, a new and charming y |leading lady whose unusual beauty and ability to wear clothes, mark her as @ new “find” in the world of motion pictures. Miss MacDonald, however, is an accomplished actress ‘and the possessor of a pleasing sing- ing voice, having starred in several !Broadway musical comedies before at- tempting her present role on the screen, CAPITOL THEATRE ‘The younger generation comes into, its own in ;“Words and Music,” all talking, singing, dancing Fox Movie- tone musical revue which will be. heard and seen at the Capitol Thea- tre next week. Principals, bit players and chorus —all are either in their teens or early twenties, and the dash and enthus- iasm which they put in their pei formance proves they are the types best adapted for this style of audible screen performance. David Percy, whose baritone voice and all around ability won him high praise when he made his screen debut in the “Fox Movietone Follies of 1929,” plays the leading role opposite Lois Moran. Percy, in “Words and Music,” is Phil Denning, collegian and embryonic song writer, and Lois’ chief suitor in the romantic story of campus life. Miss Moran is leading lady, playing the role of Mary Brown, belle of Dar- nell college. She sings, talks and dances, revealing talents which will be a pleasing surprise to film fans who have seen her only in dramatic productions.
