Espe- cially in the late dealings wheat showed activity that was at the ex- pense of values. North American wheat export business today amounted to but 200,000 bushels, and from July 1 to date has been only 78,768,000 bushels, compared with 126,012,000 bushels for the corresponding time last year. Wheat closed heavy 1':c to 2'sc a bushel lower than yesterday's finish «September 1.28%, December 1.35': to 1.35%, May 1.45! to 1.45%); corn closed sc to 2%c down (September 1.00, December 96% to 97, May 1.0374); oats 'sc to 1%ac off, and p-0- visions unchanged to a setback of 20c. Opening unchanged to “sc off, Chi- cago wheat later suffered a general decline. Corn and oats also were easier, with corn starting at tic low- er to ‘ic higher, and subsequently sagging all around. Provisions held steady. In the wheat market today, some notice was taken here of announce- ment that a factor in causing more or less wheat weakness at Liverpool was failure of @ cotton firm, onc of the partners in which is a member of the Chicago board of trade. Final quotations today on wheat at Liver- pool, however, were relatively firm, end the market here displayed rally- ing power, helped by word of big flour sale; at Minneapolis. There were also trade estimates indicating 13,000,000 bu. less wheat yield in the Canadian prairie provinces than ac- cording to official figures. Buying here on the part of houses with connections northwest was largely responsible for renewed con- fidence displayed at times today re- garding prices for wheat future de- liveries. Profit taking had a late depressing effect on corn values. Oats were easier. Provicions cased latcr with grain. MINNEAPOLIS WHEAT FUTURES’ DECLINE CHECKED Minneapolis, Sept. 27.—()—Wheat futures opened weak today, influenced by lower cables, but good general buying checked the decline. Trading as a whole, however, was quiet and featureless. December closed 1's lower. Oats futures reacted sharply on profit-taking. Rye was dull and fea- tureless, but prices flopped around nervously. Barley was in good castern demand on all dips. Flax started a shade weaker, but did not move very far. Cash wheat demand wes fair to slugeish, with fewer cars sold in the top half of the range. Durum was cuict and nominally unchanged. Win- ter offerings were light and in fair | Dec. demend. Cash oats demand was good. Rye demand was steady from mills and elevators. Malting types of barley were in especially good demand. Flax demand was indifferent. CHICAGO LIVESTOCK Chie>~>, Sept. 27—)—(U. 8, D.
