Barley ad- vanced sharply on eastern buying. Flax rese on broad commission house buying, largely to recover hedges against cash sales. Cash wheat prices were firmer compared with futures, with demand apparently better for heavier types. Durum demand improved slightly, mixed moving a little better. PERSONS CHARGED WITH ASSASSINATION OF TEXAS DRY AGENT Two Confess Complicity in Am- bush of Prohibition Raider Shot to Death San Antonio, Tex., Sept. 26. Two men and two women were in jail charged with murder and a 19 year old boy was held as a suspect today in connection with the fatal shooting of Charles Stevens, federal Prohibition agent, who, with two oth- er federal officers, was ambushed on Pleasanton road near here early yes- terday. One of the men, Joe Hocbrecht, was believed by authorities to be the leader of a bootleg ring in San An- tonio. The murder charges against him and Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Gua- jardo and Alice Smith were filed in justice court by Sheriff Alfonso New- ton, Jr. Sheriff Newton, who announced he also held a warrant charging murder for Linn Stephens, an alleged mem- ber of Hoebrecht's gang, declined to feveal the identity of the youth or the Smith woman's connection with the case. Stevens and his fellow officers, Pat Murphy and R. H. Hirzel, were re- turning here from Atascosa county where they had raided a still, when they were ambushed. Stevens shot and killed Tom Chandler, 43, ina on his home in the same county ust. Operators of the still escaped were believed by author- to have been responsible for the Guajardo, in a written state- pit proached, the hidden members of the shouted “federal officers” and ire on them.
