i e ‘ , Mrs. Wagner, Sterling, Tendered Surprise on Ninetieth Birthday For Mrs. Eliza (Grandma) Wagner, Sterling. who yesterday celebrated her Mineticth birthday, the Sterling Ladies’ Aid society of Sterling, of which she is a member. entertained yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Gaskill, one-half mile south of Sterling. The party was an entire surprise for Mrs. Wagner. The time was passed with rem- iniscences of old times, and the guest of honor was presented with a purse by the aid society. She also received Many other gifts, as well as numerous bouquets of roses, gladioli, and bas- kets of garden flowers, and telegrams from her wide circle of friends. Among the gifts was a beautifully bound memory book, which each guest later autographed. Later a buffet lunch was served, and for this the table was centered With a large birthday cake on which “90” was marked with small pink candles. : Mrs, Wagner, who lives with her 6nly son, Horatio Wagner, near Ster- ling, has made her home in Burleigh county for nearly 50 years. Although near the century mark, she declares ker health to be as good or better than 30 years ago, and her cyesight better than ever. Her interest in people and events of today has not Waned with the years, and she de- rives her greatest happiness from the letters she is constantly receiving from ‘and sending to her numerous friends. Members, of Phi Kappa Lambda sorority, North Dakota Agricultural college, were hostesses to Miss Mar- tin during her stay in Fargo, and in her honor a tea was given Sun- day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Kent Darrow. Tall white tapers with pink tulle bows, and a bowl of pink roses adorned the tea table, with baskets of roses and snapdrarons placed about the rooms. During the tea hours a program of musical numbers was given.
