L . + WHEAT PRICE LOWER; CORN FOLLOWS SUL Settlement of Argentine Strike : Serves to Dampen Ardor a! of Market Traders Chicago, Aug. 1.—(4)—Wheat prices | advanced in the late dealings today, More than off-setting early declines. - Private crop estimates to be given “out tomorrow were generally ex! to prove bullish, and there were late in@ications that new export business : dn wheat from the United States was under way. Predictions of another short crop of wheat in Canada were also current, based on experience re- gatding peculiarities of Canadian + subsoil moisture conditions. x. Wheat closed unsettled, 3-8¢ to 1 *1-2c above ’s finish, (Sept. 1.47 2-8 to 1.25, Dec. 1.55 1-8 to 3-8, March 1.60 3-4). Corn closed at 5-8 net decline to S1-8c advance, (Sept. 1.06 3-8 to 1-2, » Dee. 1.03 3-8 to 1-2, March 1.06 1-4). +» Oats 1-8 off to 1-4 to 3-8 gain, * (Sept. 52 1-2 to 1-2 to 5-8, Dec. 56 7-8 to 57, March 59 3-8). And provisions varying from 2c setback to a rise of a shade. Notable cooling of ardor on the ‘buying side of the wheat market showed itself much of the time today following word that Argentine com- petition was again looming up with germination of labor difficulties at Ports in Argentina, allowing freer shipments from that country. Under such circumstances the load of speculative holdings of wheat ‘ -here-acted as more of a weight on the market, and so too did continued pressure of newly harvested winter wheat, with elevator space here be- coming scarcer. Price rallies were numerous, but met with persistent profit-taking sales as well as hedging. Profit-taking was on in corn and prices averaged lower. Oats advanced pital toward the last. Provisions LIVERPOOL DISAPPOINTS HOLDERS OF WHEAT CROP Minneapolis, Aug. 1.—()—Liver- pool was a disappointment to wheat holders, but weather conditions were more hopeful, tending to cause an easy feeling in wheat futures at the opening. Trade was light for a: time with professionals selling and com- mission houses buying. Stubbornness induced periodic short covering, but the market failed to show any real strength during the first half of the session. Cash wheat .tone here continued easy owing to winter wheat pressure but ‘our t trade picked up some. Cash wheat demand held limited and prices continued to sag compared with fu- tures. Buyers showed preference for weight and protein but would not rite Premiums for. wheat testing than 14 protein. ceammatiae A fora spring was received. Durum demand was slack to dull. Corn demand was steady and with- out particular feature, Oats demand was weak on account of the moderate elevator space and good chance to store cheap winter wheat. Rye demand was slack to dull. Barley was steady compared with futures and demand quiet except for the best malting quality. Flax demand was steady but no offerings were reported. CHICAGO LIVESTOCK Chicago, Aug. 1.4#)—(U. 8. D A.)
