Banquet For Baldwin Graduates In honor of the 1929 class of the Baldwin schools, a banquet was held in the hotel rooms Friday evening. The table was decorated in orchid and white, the class colors, and a three course dinner was served. The members of the class and their pal ents and friends were present. Im- mediately following the banquet, a party was held during which time games and music were the diversions. Welch home Tuesday evening. Spring work started in carnest as soon as the warm days came, the middle of the week, although a start had been made before the freeze-up. Tractors can be heard in every di- rection from early morning until dark at night. Most every farmer in the vicinity owns a tractor of some kind, some even working two or three on their farms. Horses are rapidly going out of use in this neighborhood. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Welch motored to Bismarck Wednesday. Mrs. Welch had some optical work done, having some trouble with her eyes for sev- eral weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Snyder and sons Ralph and Raymond, Ed Doppler and sons Lawrence, Leo and Clarence and Marcus Tremblay motored to Bis- marck Wednesday. The children of Boyd schood No. 1 all attended Bible class at Mrs, Robt. Boyd's Wednesday evening after school. Mrs. Boyd served a lunch for the children. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rittel motored to Bismarck to see a relative who is very ill at one of the local hospitals Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs, John Welch were Bis- marck visitors Tuesday. Porter Umber and “Snowball” Rensckers were Sunday visitors at the Steve Koppy home. Miss Ernestine Wentz of Linton spent the week-end at the H. W. Backhaus home. Caroline and Hilda Backhaus were hostesses at a farewell surprise party Sunday evening in honor of Miss El- len Sorenson. About 30 guests were present. The evening was spent in playing games and dancing. A de- licious lunch was served at midnight. Miss Sorenson taught school in this district and left Monday for her home at Sidney, Montana. Beyer and son Bobby called at the Colthorp farm south of Driscoll, and also visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sharp of Driscoll Tuesday. cs Ole Slaatenhues was a business caller at Steele Tuesday. ° d Funeral services were held Thurs- day afternoon in the Pentecostal church of Regan for Mrs. Anna Gramling, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs, John Stewart, Monday, April 8th. Anna Eliza Ship- with was born December 11, 1858, in Clay county, Il., where she lived wi til 1879, when she was united in mar- riage to James Gramling of Linn county, Iowa. To this union eleven children were born. Her husband died about a year ago and two sons, Ray and Fred, also preceded her in death. In October, 1903, Mr. and Mrs. Gramling moved from Iowa to a homestead north of Regan where they made their home until a few years ago. Mrs. Gramling made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Stewart, who lives near Bismarck, for the past three years. She is survived by her sons, Howard and Lynn of Regan, Loren of Watford City, N. Dak., Roy of Wilton, and daughters, Mrs, John Stewart and Gladys of Bismarck, Mrs. Vera Stewart of Glen- coe, Mrs. Alice Smith of Penn Yan, N. Y., and Mrs, H. Ferris of Wilton, as well as 18 grandchildren. The Reverend Christ of Wilton officiated Rev. W. Osborn of Crary, N. Dak., held services in the Congregational church last week. Miss Gladys Rue of Baldwin spent the week-end with her sister, Miss Helen, of Regan. Mr. and Mrs, H. Dimmond were callers at the J. Houser home near McClusky on Thursday of last week. Mrs, A. H. Helgeson, unit president, gave a report of the rally which she attended in Jamestown. The party that purchased the seven quarters of the Peter Daly land in Trygg township came from across the Missouri river last week and stopped at the Nels Nelson home.
