Y,, to San Francisco by train, pur- sued in an airplane by Dr. D. O. Meeker who apparently was commis- sioned by Coulter, persisted, and whatever wedding plans they may have were kept secret. The couple, Coulter appearing in a wheel chair, obtained a marriage license Tuesday. To the license clerk, Miss McConnell explained they would be married Thursday by the “Rev. Mr. Roberts, who does not live here.” Miss McConnell and Coulter were believed to have spent the night at the McConnell home here. To all telephone inquiries, a series of “Noes” was the response. Reporters knock- ing at the front door were met by dimmed lights. Meanwhile accord- ing to one newspaperman, Coulter sat inside in his wheel chair and stared through the glass at them. Conflicting reasons were given in December for the impromptu cross country race which ended when Dr. Meeker's airplane. was forced down in Nevada. Henry Earl McConnell, the girl's father, gave out a state- he ment here that the young woman was in poor health. Coulter, at ihe marriage license bureau gave his occupation as “rail- road treasurer.” He has been par- alyzed since a football accident nearly 20 years ago. Miss McConnell, in- structress in eastern private schools, is reported to have met *Coulter in a sanitarium at Clifton Springs about two years ago when both were under- going treatment.
