FRIDAY, DECEMBER Social and Personal 21, 1928 Carols, Plays, Trees, Parties and Programs Mark Schools Christmas Observance Today Many Teachers Will Remain Here for the Holidays; Others Leave for Their Homes The Christmas season will be ob- served in the schools today before the closing for the holiday vacation. Spe- cial programs. with the parents as guests, will be given at some of the Schools, and there will be parties and frees for the children. Others wi have impromptu programs. Members of the Pep staff are enter- taining the high school students at @ matinee dance at 3:30 this after- noon. This will be followed by a Christmas party. At the Roosevelt school there is a Christmas tree in each room and the children of the different groups are bringing gifts for each other, and will Play games. They will gather in the symnasium for a joint impromptu Program this afternoon. Children at the William Moore school held a joint Christmas pro- gram Wednesday afternoon. There was singing of carols by the various classes and later they gathered around the large Christmas tree in the hall to hear Christmas stories. Thi§ afternoon there will be parties in each room with exchange of gifts. A program at which all the grades of the Will school will be guests will be given this afternoon in the band room at the school. Two plays will be given and carols will be sung by the glee clubs. Later each group will have a party in its own room. The Richholt school is having a short program today for all the grades. Christmas gifts will be dis- tributed, Christmas stories told, and refreshments served. Three playlets, “The Lonely Little Fir Tree,” “Teaching Tillie’ and “A Modern Christmas,” will be given this afternoon at the Wachter school. Parents of the children are invited, and there will also be musical num- bers and recitations. Each room is in charge of a part of the program. A party in which all the rooms will join will be held afterwards. Many teachers will leave today and tomorrow in order to reach their homes by Christmas day. Members of the high school staff planning to be away during the holiday season are: W. H. Payne, principal, who will visit with friends at Eagle Grove, lowa; Mildren Huff, geometry teacher, who will go to her home at Renville, Minn.; Margery Morris, instructor in domestic science, will spend the va- cation at her home at Ipswich, S. D.; Irene Lambertus, algebra teacher, will go to her home at Parkston, S. D.; Arnold Van Wyk, chemistry teacher, will spend Christmas at his home at Sioux Center, Iowa; Marie Turner, English instructor, will go to Barnard, Mo., her home; and Cecelia Cham- peau, French teacher, will visit at her home at Red Lake Falls, Minn. Miss Huldah Salem of the Will school will go to Portage, Wis., and Miss Nora McGettigan will go to her home at Superior, Wis. for Christ- mas. Other teachers of the schools who will return to their homes for the holidays are Esther Maxwell, who will go to Wilton; Adeline Ness, who will visit at Pickardsville; Jessie Striegl, who will visit her home at Brooks, Minn.; and Charlotte Schmidt, who will spend her vacation in Min- neapolis and Chicago. Misses Huber. McKee, Evarts, Ol- son and Mr. Leifur will remain in Bismarck. Four of the Roosevelt teachers will be away for the holidays. Miss Grace Hand, principal, will visit at her home in Valley City; Odella Smith will go to her home at Glenwood, Minn.; Winnifred Barrington will go to Chip- pewa Falls, Wis.; and Lucy Brantner to her home at Bartlett, N. D. Only one teacher at the Wachter school, Miss Josie Grinde, will spend Christmas out of the city. Miss Grinde will go to her home at May- ville. Jean Gardner of the Richholt school will spend Christmas at her home at Brocket, N. D., and Clara Reistad of the same school will go to Walcott, N. D. Florence Huber plans to spend part of her vacation at Fargo, and Marguerite Lyness goes to her home at Bloomington, Wis. Miss Edna Jones of the William Moore school will visit a brother at Mott during her vacation. Elizabeth Best will go to Walhalla, Anne Rode- wald to Minneapolis, and Helen Mc- Lean to Grafton for the vacation pe- riod he other teachers expect to stay in Bismarck during the Christ- mas vacation. eee ‘W. L. Smith will leave tomorrow for Billings, Mont., to spend Christ- mas with Mrs. Smith and their daughters, Kathryn and Florence. Schultz was reelected oracle of the Royal Neighbors lodge at thelr annual election last evening, held at the I. O. O. ©. hall. Other officers who will assist her during the cnsuing year are: Mes- dames F. E. McCurdy, vice oracle; L. LaRue, past oracle; C. R. Kositzky, chancellor; R. T. Bakken, recorder; Oscar Vesperman, receiver; A. W. Gussner, marshal; E. A. Brown, inner aga and L. Carufel, outer senti- nel. Mrs. Herman Ohde was named manager for a three year term. Initiation ot a class of candidates took place after the election. Bridge was played at five tables during a part of the evening, with honors going to Mrs. J. W. Mc- Guiness, Mrs. A. Finseth and Mrs. W. M. Scott. Mrs. Lyngstad Is Ii W. B.A. President Mrs. Emma Lyngstad is president of the Women's Benefit Association for the coming year. Election of officers took place Wednesday evening at their meeting at the Elks hall. Officers who will serve with Mrs. ; Lyngstad are: Mrs. Selma Tekippe, vice president, Mrs. Mary Slattery, past president; Mabel Olson, financial secretary; Mmes. Adeline Haggerty, record-keeper; Verna Svaren, chap- lain; Gertrude Craver, lady of cere- monies; Matilda Ross, sergeant; Inger Berg. inner hostess; Florence Wad- ington, outer hostess, and Hazel Wilcox, music:an. Following the election short instal- lation ceremonies were held, and the remainder of the evening was spent socially. De Molay Degree Is Given Four Members Four members received the DeMo- lay degree at the DeMolay meeting held last evening at the Masonic temple. Those receiving the degree were John O'Hare, Merle Isaminger, Clar- ence Bahmer, and Delvin Swanick. Conferrin, the degree and a report by the DeMolay-Rainbow Reunion committee, constituted the evening's business. Plans for the annual party given in conjunction with the Rain- bow Girls were reported as being completed. Several Masons were guests at the meeting. eee Rev. C. A. Stephens is expected home today from Sioux Falls, 8. D., where he went to get his daughter, Mary, who attends Sioux Falls college. They will be accompanied by Misses Evelyn Jacobson and Wilma Kafer, also students at the college. who will spend Christmas with their parents here.
