FRIDAY, NOVEMBER AUTO ACCIDENT DEATHS RAISED} | Washington, D. C., Nov. 23.—The| Department of Commerc: inounces that in the registration area in con- tinental United States there were 21,160 accidental deaths ip 1927) charged to automobiles and other motor vehicles (excluding motor- cycles), and that the death rate from this cause was 19.5 per 1,000 popula- tion against 17.9 in 1926, 17 in 1925, 15.7 in 192', and .14.9 in 1923, It should be noted, however, that the deaths assigned to automobile accidents do not include those due to! collisions of automobiles with street | cars and with railroad tzains, There- | fore, as in 1927 there were 476 deaths due to collisions of automo- biles with street cars and 1,676 due to collisions with railroad These deaths if added to the assigned to automobile acci would make for the istration @ grand total of 23,312 deaths due to accidents in which automobiles were involved and would raise the} rate from 19.5 to 21.5 per qVONCU population. | As in 19: he registration area included only 91.3 pez cent of the to-| tal population of the United States, by assuming that the number of| deaths from automobile accidents re-j ported in the registration area com-; prises 91.3 per cent of the number of | deaths from automobile accidents in| the entire United States, it may be! estimated that the total number of deaths in that year due to accidents in which automobiles were involved was approximately 25,533, | AT THE MOVIES ¢—_—_—__—______ CAPITOL THEATRE To those who have seen and mar- veled at the photographic beauty i de of the Scartet,’ Ken May- latest western now at the Capitol Theatre, it will be of interest | to know that the entire picture, in- | cluding the location scenes, were | taken in California. | The picture is a story of the Cana-) dian northwest, and as a location! spot had to be found that corre- sponded to the Canadian Rocki much as possible, Harry J.
