Shafer’s statement follows: | “Our campaign on state issues will be closed tonight and the case submitted to the voters for decision tomorrow. a “It has been a long campaign for me, lasting several months. It is the second contest for me this year. ‘We have done our best to present the questions involved clearly and fairly, believing that all our citizens, of whatever party or faction, want only that which is fair and right for the state. “The majority approved my candi- dacy for governor in the primaries, and I am confident that the majority will ratify the primary result. “I express the hope that we will have a 100 per cent vote tomorrow. Let the verdict, whatever it is, be the majority of the whole electorate, not a part of it. With a big vote out, Iam sure victory will be certain and decisive.” Maddock Forecasts Progressive Victory Forecasting a “sweeping progres- sive victory” in the election tomor- row and denying that he was in favor of expansion of the state in- cvstries, Governor Walter E.
