The ladies in charge of the after- noon were Mesdames Beem, Stayner, Klein, and Bosworth and the success showed they spent much time and thought in preparation. Farewell Party _ One of the important social events of last week was the farewell party given Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clark in the basement of the Presbyterian ch, A large crowd enjoyed the games and contests. Picnic lunch was served. A purse of money was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Clark, which was a token of the high es- teem in which they are held by their many friends here, J. C. Chris- tianson made the presentation ad- dress in which he called to mind the many years Mrs. Clark had spent in in Raleigh and how she would be missed not only by the community but by the church. He also brought to mind how Mr. Clark had turned from the many pretty girls of In- diana and chosen one of ours. Mr, and Mrs. Clark left Saturday morning for Portland, Indiana. They ‘will visit en route with relatives in Sioux Falls, S. Dak, Hamlet and Montpelier, Indiana. Roy Henry of Dunkirk, Indiana, left with Mr. and Mrs. Clark. He had been employed here during threshing, — G. D. Bosworth and family mo- tored to McIntosh, S. Dak., Sunday afternoon. They were accompanied by his father E. N. Boswoeth, who took the train from there to Aber- deen to attend a business meeting of the Equity Union Creamery. He will ge from there to Jamestown, N. fak., where this company also has established an Euity Creamery, Mrs. Chas. Beem received a mes- sage Saturday telling her of the ser- ious illness of her mother. She left in the afternoon via McIntosh for og Rapids, Iowa, to be at her bed- side. Roy Steele came home Friday from Sioux Falls, S. Dak., wheye he has been employed for several months in a wholesale hardware store. He has enlisted in the navy and came home to say goodby to relatives and friends. An important business deal was closed this week. Westrum Bros. sold their stock of hardware to Adolph Riehl and M. Brickner. The new firm is to take charge Oct. 22. A young man by the name of West, who worked with the Homsey threshing crew, was stricken with pneumonia last week and as he was a war veteran was taken Sunday to the veterans’ hospital at Ft. Mr. Dutton is the owner of a new car, ‘ Frank Ellsworth of the Bismarck Tribune was out in the Spur vicinity on business and assisted in fighting the prairie fire Friday, which did considerable damage in the com- munity. The prairie fire which took place in the Spur district Friday did good deal of damage. Geo. Scar- borough lost a quarter section of hay which was ready to be stacked. Orin Dutton lost three settings of wheat and Gieovanomi lost his threshing machine. A score of men fought with all their strength to save Joe Hill's buildings and the Spur schoolhouse.
