EXPERTS MAKE COMBINE STUDY: District Between Garrison and Parshall Has Most Com- bines in State vator and terminal marketing condi- tions for North Dakota combine- threshed wheat and other grains is being made by a staff from the state agricultural college, according to A. H. Benton, of the college, who was in Bismarck today. Little information is available at present on marketing conditions but the college authorities expect to profit from information gained dur- ‘ing the threshing season this year. Other investigations concerning the relation of the combine to farm expense, the drying of eombine- threshed grain, and the moisture and protein content of grains are. being made by a staff of experts from the college in various sections of the state. Benton left early this afternoon for the district of Garrison, Makoti, Ryder and Parsha! This disirice has more combines than any other district in the state, Benton said, and it is ideal for studying. Benton also studying what types of grain are best threshed by the combine. L. A. Reynoldson is gathering data on the relation of the combine to farm management. L._A. Hurst, W. C. Humphreys, and G. A. Rothteb are gathering in- formation on grain dryers, ventila- tion, windows, and grain bins. P. H. Black, of the United States De- tment of Agriculture, is now at Jamestown conducting several sur- veys in connection with the combine. An effort is being made this year to find out how combine-threshed and separator-threshed grain com- pare in moisture content and protein content, Benton says that so far this year experts have noticed little difference between the two grains. “Wet grain is wet grain whether it is threshed in the old way or in the combine method,” he si County Agent A. R. Miesen is aid- ing farmers and elevators in the dis- trict this season by testigg various samples of grains for moisture and protein content. 36 Counties Report Damages From Hail Farmers in 36 North Dakota coun- ties made claims to the state hail insurance department for damages during the week of August 25 to 31, it is shown in the weekly report is- sued by the department.
